New single up…soon

Hey all,

I wanted to get this out before I forgot! So tonight, those of you who follow this website are getting the inside scoop. Most likely you will be the most ready to listen to our new single, All Seeing Owl, featuring Natalie Diaz, when I post it tonight!

This is the other song we recorded with Erik Ron last year, the first one being Russian Dolls. We have played All Seeing Owl at almost every single show we have played since we recorded it, so if you have not seen us live, this will be a treat.

It will be a treat anyways, this song sounds great and its fun and you’ll love it immediately.

In other news, we are super busy writing our next album and looking for a new singer.

Keep posted to modernamericantheatre.bandcamp.com, I will put the song up after I get home from work tonight.

Still searching for a new singer

Hey everyone,

As most of you may know, our singer has left, due to personal goals and to work on her solo music. We have been writing new songs while the search continues for a new voice for Modern American Theatre and raising funds so when we are up and running again, playing shows, we can have a solid vehicle that the whole band can travel in.

Share us with your friends, family, band mates, band friends, everyone!

I have been listening to a lot of awesome music from Sargent House lately, completely blown away by some of the stuff coming out of that whole label, hearing new music to me is just a stronger catalyst to get our music out into the world.

I forget what point I was trying to put across in this post…

Something about sharing music you love with everyone, you never know whose life it could change.

Think about it…

Mini-Tour

We had a blast a couple weeks ago, rented a van, filled it up, drove up to northern CA and back. We lost our singer along the way though…

First stop was Chico, CA. LaSalles with Clouds on Strings and Goat. Two awesome bands, bought their album, have not stopped listening to Pomology. Our good friend from Mute Witness and Hail the Sun, Donovan, let us crash at his place, what a dude!

Next day was San Francisco at Bottom of the Hill, nice venue, everyone has played there… well, just about everyone. Saw an AMAZING band, Glimpse Trio, they were like Phish, Zappa, and more all rolled into one and done nicely. Super strong musicians and super tight. Due to some band friction that night, we ended up driving to Sacramento that night.

Next was Sacramento! We went to this used music store, and I bought some cheap mics for fun, thought about buying many other things, but space was an issue in the van. We played at the coffee shop call the javalounge. Heard some crazy fusion stuff from Tao Jiriki (sp?) and some refreshing Tera Melosesque math rock from some young dudes called Former Animals. Hung out with the grandparents who regaled us with stories for hours and then watched Me, Myself, and Irene with grandpa.

Drove to Fresno the next day, took a nap, went to this tiny bar called the Lamp Post and set up. It was sparsely attended, but the people who stayed and watched seemed to enjoy us. It was an instrumental show, due to Natalie’s departure, but it was fun!

I like that the band is always down to do ridiculous drives, like leaving SF at 2am to drive to Sacramento, or playing a show in Fresno, then driving to LA afterwards. Makes me look forward to the future and all the driving we will be doing together.

Amplyfi’s downtown location

Played a fun show at Amplyfi this past Sunday. Awesome bands I heard include, Purge Solenoid, Hail the Sun, and The Speed of Sound in Seawater. Great bands, lots of fun, lots of energy.

We got there a bit late due to the weird parking situation and missed the first two bands. The venue was very boomy and open sounding, since it was a warehouse, which I happen to like. It can get pretty crazy with sound waves bouncing off every wall, but it gives that special vibe.

Purge Solenoid gave off a really cool Mars Volta kind of vibe, The Speed of Sound in Seawater was really cool, and Hail the Sun was full of energy, I swear they only played 4 songs, but their set was at least half an hour!

Then we played, pretty solid set, we premiered our newest song “Ricin”. I have a huge musical boner for that song right now. Check out our facebook wall for videos of the set.

I’m very excited for the future and the new year. we have a little tour at the beginning of January, and we are writing songs for our next album and we are very excited for you to hear them.

We will also have a single coming out from our session with Erik Ron, you may have heard the song at our shows recently, “All Seeing Owl”, look out for that early next year.

Played a show at 2nd street Jazz last week

It was fun, saw some teenagers play their hearts out. Saw Eyeshine, really liked them, the drummer had his kit as the house kit. That is so brave, I would never put my kit up for anyone to use, maybe I should get a lesser kit just for that purpose if it ever comes up?

Anyways, played a pretty solid set, check out our facebook there is a video or two up.

If you are reading this and have not yet donated to our indiegogo at http://www.indiegogo.com/mattour , please do, we will appreciate and love you forever, and give you things.

Show coming up this weekend, Sunday at AMPLYFi, hope we will see you all there.

Harris Grade CD release show

Great show last Friday. I missed most of HG since I was driving to SLO after we played. Check out our facebook, we have a couple of links on our wall to videos of some of the songs from that night. I was really happy to see Back Pocket Memory, you should check them out. Really solid group and good songs.

If you are reading this, take the time to check out our fundraising site to get a vehicle large enough to tour in.
