Recap from the last month or so…

The CSUDH show was fun, we had sooooo much time to play, we played all of our songs and the people playing root beer pong seemed to enjoy our music.

In between that show and our show last week at the Whisky, we have been furiously writing songs. We recorded two songs last night with a friend of ours. There is still a lot more that we are in the process of writing for our full length album that we will be doing in the near future.

Our show at the Whisky was pretty great, it was one of those shows that I felt that we had a solid groove going. No song too fast, no song too slow, it was just right.

I am very excited for our upcoming shows as well as being able to play some new material for you all soon.

See you out there,
Conner

こんにちは!

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted something on the amazing MAT website. A few things have gone down between here and then so let me fill you in. I’ll keep it brief.

1) San Francisco/Hollister:
SF was beyond awesome. Solid set, free drinks, lots of new faces got melted. Oh and someone threw up on Justin in the bathroom but it’s ok he got a 20 out of sympathy from the culprit. I met a cool guy by the name of John (not myself, I know I’m cool but it wasn’t me) and the band Fierce Creatures (check them out).
Hollister was a cute little city, we played at Mars Hill Coffeehouse. It was not one of our best shows but we did sell a grip of CDs aaand there was a lot of kids that showed up for the MAT show. Thanks guys.

2) Hawthorne Heights show:
It was a monday night but the outcome was good. Obviously HH is a popular band and they brought out the kids. It was a good set, we got people moving around and people bought some CDs to support us and we made some new fans. I signed a CD which was flattering but odd at the same time. My good friend Jun Umemoto came out to watch. He’s an awesome guy who works in the music industry in Japan. Thanks for coming out Jun!

3) Visalia Show:
The drive up was not so long and it’s always shorter when you have your best friends to talk to. I did not know what to expect going up there. I’ve never heard of the city, I didn’t know the scene, I just didn’t have any clue how it would turn out. We took a chance on this show but as a group it’s always important to share your sound in different areas. What we got in return was way beyond PHENOMENAL! No one knew who we were when the night started but they couldn’t stop saying our name after the show was over. The positive response from the crowd was really moving. I couldn’t stop smiling at how AWESOME the kids of Visalia treated us. We even did an interview after the show. We also made some awesome new friends in A Week Away, The Day I Ate the Moon, and Shallow Like Me (check them out). The whole experience made the drive home way easier.

Well this concludes my blog for now. I’m going to frequent this more often so you don’t get tired of reading Conner Martins dumb blog…jk

Next show: Cal State Dominguez Hills Nov. 2nd. 2hr set? Yep we’re going to melt faces for 2 whole hours!

さようなら

Visalia show was awesome

I love playing shows in new cities and places, it brings out all kinds of new people and bands that you have never heard of and instantly love. Cafe 210 was a cool venue, it sounded nice, got a complement on how my drums sounded. I always like that, I spend a lot of time keeping my drums in tune, they sing in a very specific way for the way I play, I like it when someone notices. If you are reading this, go and check out The Day I Ate the Moon NOW. I loved them, they inspired me, it was a great surprise.

Last week, we also played a show as one of the opening acts for Hawthorne Heights, I was super tired and did not stay, but saw a really good drummer in a band that I forgot their name.

Looking forward to writing new music and our next show at Cal State Dominguez Hills…See you there

Burger records in Fullerton

Interesting place, a record store with a lot of records that I wanted, but did not have the funds to purchase: Kraftwerk’s Autobahn, Zappa’s Joe’s Garage, Sparks’ Angst in My Pants. There were a couple of indie bands with girl drummers on before us, I wasn’t sure who they were, but they were okay. We were up next, I tried to tone my playing down a bit due to the cramped circumstances and our own PA. I felt like we had a pretty solid set. After us came Spaceships and Stuff, a promising punk/indie band. I really liked the song structures but the tightness left something to desire. The real highlight of the day was having Five Guy’s Burgers before we played. AMAZING. After the show we headed home, Justin had the great idea of going to this amazing sausage place in downtown called Wurstkuche. I had a rattlesnake and rabbit and a buffalo sausage, one of those unexpectedly nice meals. Unloaded the gear, drove home, stayed up until 3am watching various movies. From the A-Team to Inglourious Basterds to Black Swan to Weeds. TV is such a time-suck. Can’t wait until our next show!

Hollister show and the drive back

Honestly, it was a ‘C’ show for me. We played solidly for the most part, but when there is a physical barrier between the band and me, like a plexiglass prison, I have a hard time getting into it. I totally blew the solo for Cumulus Columbus Clouds and broke at the wrong part of She’s Like That, but we are getting a live recording of the set, so we may post that up someday! We had some pretty bomb fish tacos before the show, so thumbs up Hollister for that! The drive back suuuuuuucked. It had some great times though, Paul and I blasting Andrew WK to the demise of the rest of the van then John and I blasting Happy Hardcore after getting In’N'Out. Speaking of that, I had 6 layers of onions on my burger…why? Cuz I felt like it bro. Got back to LA by 2am or so, returned the van, fell asleep between 3 and 4. Crazy weekend. I really want to do it again soon though.

Love,

Conner
